In 2018, an ownership group of prominent leaders from business, sports and entertainment formed in Seattle with ambitious goals. Led by David Bonderman and Samantha Holloway, the group set out to create incredible experiences across music and sports and to have a positive impact on our community.
Climate Pledge Arena is the most significant private investment ever made in the history of Pacific Northwest sports and entertainment. Together, Oak View Group, the Seattle Kraken and the City of Seattle reimagined and redeveloped the arena under the historic landmarked roof which was originally built for the 1962 Seattle World’s Fair. Climate Pledge Arena, located at Seattle Center, opened in October 2021 and is home to the NHL’s Seattle Kraken, the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, the PWHL’s Seattle Torrent and is a top ten global music venue, annually hosting over 60 concerts. It is the only arena in North America that is home to two professional women’s teams. It is the most sustainable arena in the world and the first to be declared net-zero carbon by the International Living Futures Institute.
The NHL’s 32nd franchise, the Seattle Kraken, commenced play in the 2021-22 season. Breaking records for merchandise sales and attendance, the Kraken reached the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in just their second season. In their third season, the team hosted the 2024 Winter Classic at T-Mobile Park in front of 47,000-plus fans, defeating the Las Vegas Golden Knights in a 3-0 shutout. In the 26-27 season, the Kraken will travel to Helsinki to take on the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL Global Series Finland.
Kraken Community Iceplex, the team’s headquarters, has become a centerpiece for the region’s rapid growth in ice sports. With three rinks, the Iceplex welcomes more than one million visitors each year for learn‑to‑skate and learn-to-play programs, figure skating, youth hockey, adult leagues, and community events. Its mission is to expand access and build a thriving community.
The Kraken’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds, owned in partnership with OVG, has taken the market by storm. The Firebirds have appeared in the Calder Cup Playoffs in their first three seasons, including winning the league’s Western Conference Championship in their first two. The team’s home, Acrisure Arena, is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose arena in the desert that has been filled for hockey and an impressive schedule of events and concerts since opening in December 2022.
One Roof Foundation focuses on increasing access to play for youth across the region, ending youth homelessness and supporting communities disproportionately impacted by climate change. The foundation envisions a more equitable Pacific Northwest where all young people can realize a brighter future. Through its three pillars, the foundation works to create lasting impact in the community.
